The Miami Dolphins’ disappointing 6-10 season has cost a handful of the team’s assistant coaches their jobs.

Miami’s secondary struggled this past season, and as a result defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo, who has been with the franchise for six seasons, was the latest assistant who did not have his contract renewed, according to a league source.

The Dolphins allowed the NFL’s fifth-worst passer rating (94.8) to opposing quarterbacks, which completed 64.2 percent of their passes against Miami’s defense in 2017. Only eight teams allowed a higher completion percentage than the Dolphins, who featured three young cornerbacks as starters in the secondary and played half the season without T.J. McDonald, the team’s starting free safety.

Miami’s defense recorded just nine interceptions in 2017, which was the fifth fewest total this season.

Anarumo, who was a holdover from Joe Philbin’s staff, joins defensive line coach Terrell Williams, and tailback coach Danny Barrett as the members of Adam Gase’s coaching staff in 2017 who were let go.

Coaches contracts typically expire in January, and sometimes assistants opt not to re-sign so they can join another organization. It is unclear which members of Miami’s staff the Dolphins wanted to retain.

The Dolphins previously hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains as their new offensive coordinator, and brought Jeremiah Washburn back as the offensive line coach. Washburn was with the Dolphins for one season before joining the Bears as Chicago’s offensive line coach.
