Today is primary day in Fort Lauderdale. Voters are going to the polls to select a new mayor to replace Jack Seiler, who faces term limits after three three-year terms. Three commission seats are also on the ballot.

FORT LAUDERDALE – Voters will go to the polls today to choose a new mayor and three commission­ers.

The mayoral candidates are Commission­er Bruce G. Roberts, former commission­er Charlotte Rodstrom and Commission­er Dean Trantalis. Current Mayor Jack Seiler is termlimite­d.

In District 2, the candidates are George William Castrataro, Steven Glassman, Chad Maxey, Tim Smith and Lester Zalewski. The district includes Central Beach, Las Olas Isles, Sailboat Bend, Flagler Village, Victoria Park and Middle River Terrace.

In District 3, the candidates are Donna Guthrie, Marie “Miss Peaches” Huntley and Commission­er Robert McKinzie. The district includes Melrose Park, Rock Island and parts of Sistrunk Boulevard.

In District 4, the candidates are former Dania Beach mayor Walter B. Duke III, Benjamin “Ben” Sorensen and Warren Sturman. The district includes the 17th Street Causeway, Marina Mile, Tarpon River and the southern beach areas.

If no candidate gets 50 percent plus 1 of the vote, the top two vote-getters will face off in a runoff election on March 13, when several other municipali­ties hold elections.

Heather Moraitis was elected without opposition in District 1, which includes Bal Harbour, Coral Ridge, Galt Ocean Mile, Imperial Point and Palm Aire Village.

The city’s 120,514 registered voters are eligible to vote for mayor; the district seats are limited to voters in those geographic areas.

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Voters need to bring a valid picture ID, including a driver’s license, Florida ID card, U.S. passport or government identifica­tion.

Voters should go to their precinct site.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. today to the Supervisor of Elections Office, 1501 NW 40th Ave. in Lauderhill.
