Trump due back in S. Florida Friday

- By Juan Ortega Staff writer

President Donald Trump finished his three-day weekend stay in South Florida, but he should be back in town Friday.

According to a notice by the Federal Aviation Administration issued Monday, the president is expected to return to Palm Beach and stay until Sunday.

It’ll be his 13th visit to Mar-a-Lago since becoming president.

Among what’s planned this coming weekend: Trump will have a private dinner with a sweepstakes winner, reportedly at Mara-Lago, his private club. The president’s 2020 campaign is presenting the sweepstakes to mark the one-year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration, according to an online entry form.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Trump left Mar-aLago at 8:54 a.m. and arrived a few minutes later at Trump International Golf Course, where he likely played golf. Air Force One left Palm Beach International Airport about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Trump marked his first King holiday as president buffeted by claims that during a meeting with senators on immigration last week, he used a vulgarity to describe African countries and questioned the need to allow more Haitians into the U.S. He also is said to have asked why the country couldn't have more immigrants from nations like Norway.

When he returned to Mar-a-Lago in the afternoon, Trump took to Twitter to criticize Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., who accused Trump of making the "shithole" remark he denies.

"Senator Dicky Durbin totally misrepresented what was said," Trump wrote in a tweet.

In Washington, King's eldest son, Martin Luther King III, criticized Trump, saying, "When a president insists that our nation needs more citizens from white states like Norway, I don't even think we need to spend any time even talking about what it says and what it is."

He added, "We got to find a way to work on this man's heart."

On Sunday, the president defended himself, declaring that "I am not a racist."
