HIALEAH — A talented and deep group of high school football prospects from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties came together at Hialeah’s Milander Park for the Florida Fire’s annual tryout.

Palm Beach Central fivestar cornerback and FSU commit Akeem Dent was one of a number of standouts at the 7-on-7 event directed by Dennis Marroquin, who coaches Hialeah Champagnat Catholic, fresh off a Class 2A state title.

Dent is the nation’s No. 1-ranked cornerback in the Class of 2019, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

“I haven’t had a chance to personally meet him in person, but he’s talked to my mom and stuff like that,” Dent said of new FSU coach Willie Taggart. “I got a good impression.

“He just told me, ‘Stay patient. It’s going to be good.’ ”

Dent said he looks forward to getting a chance to visit Tallahassee during the summer. Once committed to Miami as a sophomore at Pahokee, Dent said he’s still considering Alabama, Clemson and LSU among other possible suitors, but that he is “strongly” committed to the Seminoles.

After helping spearhead a strong Central defense to a District 9-8A title, a firstround playoff win over Seminole Ridge and a regional semifinal appearance, Dent said he’s trying to lead the Broncos to states as a senior and feels they have what it takes to get there. State in the mix.

Mullen, who is the younger brother of Clemson cornerback Trayvon Mullen, is also keeping an eye on the Tigers.

“They haven’t said much, but I’m not pushing it,” Tiawan Mullen said. “If they want me to come play for them, they’ll just show attention, but I’m going to go somewhere where needed, not where I want to go.”

Trayvon Mullen has helped Tiawan in the recruiting process.

“He’ll support me. He’ll tell me the good things about a program,” Tiawan Mullen said. “He says anywhere I go he’s going to support me. That’s a plus for me because he doesn’t pressure me about going to Clemson.”
