ORCHIDS IN BLOOM
60th annual Orchid Jubilee starts Friday in Fort Lauderdale.
Orchid lovers can feed their obsession when the 60th annual Orchid Jubilee gets underway in Fort Lauderdale.
The juried show, sponsored by the nonprofit Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society, will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 19-21 at the War Memorial Auditorium, 800 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale. A champagne preview party is set for Jan. 18.
“It’s the most beautiful orchid show in South Florida,” says organizer Michael Schaberl. “We are excited and proud to host the second largest orchid show in the continental United States here in Fort Lauderdale, with over 10,000 blooming orchids on display and for sale.”
The event features nearly 30 international vendors from four corners of the globe, as well as potting and growing supplies, jewelry, raffles and a large display of plants grown by local orchid society members. This year, American Orchid Society judges will award a ribbon and $250 prize for the best hobbyist’s orchid and best commercial grower’s orchid.
Tickets are $10 in advance online, or $15 at the door; a three-day pass is $20. Parking is free.
Save $3 on admission with a coupon to the show. Visit FLOS.org to print the coupon, good for savings on up to four tickets at the door.
Hardcore fans can get first crack at plants during the preview party, which will include bubbly and a buffet with live entertainment. Tickets are $70.
