Shutting the government, the fault of members of Congress, is an absolute disgrace. They want to flex their muscle and show how tough they are while the public suffers — and they just don’t seem to care.

I have a suggested solution. For every day, or part of a day, that a shutdown lasts, members of Congress should lose one month’s pay. In addition, they should lose 10 percent of their office operating budget at the same time. This kind of drastic action would make it more likely that the parties would try to work things out rather than shut the government.
