Young, Oklahoma upend Kansas

Trae Young had 26 points and nine assists as No. 12 Oklahoma rallied to beat No. 5 Kansas 85-80 on Tuesday night in Norman, Okla.

Young, the nation’s leader in scoring and assists, made 7 of 9 field goals and 10 of 12 free throws. Christian James scored 15 points and Brady Manek added 14 for the Sooners (15-4, 5-3 Big 12), who won their 13th straight at home.

Svi Mykhailiuk scored 24 points and Malik Newman added 20 for the Jayhawks (16-4, 6-2), who had won five straight. Devonte’ Graham, Kansas’ leading scorer, finished with 11 points on 4-of-19 shooting.

The Jayhawks were two games ahead of the rest of the Big 12 in the loss column and missed a chance to take control of the conference race.

Topranked Villanova won its sixth in a row, using a 22-2 first-half run to crush visiting Providence 89-69.

Eric Paschall led six Wildcats (19-1, 6-1 Big East) in double figures with 17 points. Omari Spellman added 16 points and Jalen Brunson scored 15, while Rodney Bullock led the Friars with 16 points.

Devon Hall scored 14 points and No. 2 Virginia (19-1, 8-0 ACC), which leads the nation in scoring defense, allowed its fewest points of the season in a 61-36 rout of No. 18 Clemson. Gabe DeVoe, with 11 points, was the only player in double figures for the visiting Tigers (16-4, 5-3) . ... Keenan Evans scored 22 of his 26 points after halftime, and No. 14 Texas Tech (16-4, 5-3 Big 12) rallied from a 15-point deficit to win 75-70 at Oklahoma State. Jarrett Culver added 25 points . ... Jordan Bowden scored 19 points and No. 22 Tennessee (14-5, 5-3 SEC) nearly blew a 20-point second-half lead before hanging on for a 67-62 victory over visiting Vanderbilt for its fifth win in six games.

Vanderbilt guard Matthew Fisher-Davis will miss the rest of the season with an injured right shoulder . ... SMU lost two forwards to season-ending injuries. Jarrey Foster has a partly torn ACL that will require surgery, and Everett Ray has a broken bone in his foot. News services
