Shooting in Lauderhill
A man was found shot dead in Lauderhill on Friday — the second gun-related killing in the city in a week.
A Lauderhill resident called 911 before dawn Friday to report there was an unresponsive man on the ground at the New Colony Apartments, police said.
Police said the deceased man was Roy Brockington, 29, who lived in the complex.
He had fallen in the parking lot, near a black Mazda SUV. Lauderhill police arrived at 6:20 a.m. to the 5400 block of Northwest 27th Street, Lt. Michael Santiago said. They blocked off some of the pastel-colored buildings with yellow crimescene tape and interviewed people.
Investigators don’t yet have information about a suspect or witnesses to the crime, Santiago said.
Although it was the second killing by gunfire in a week in Lauderhill and the second one this year, so far don’t think deaths are related.
Santiago said of Brockington’s killing, “It is too early in the investigation to suggest that this is connected to any other homicide.”
A week ago, Devon Payne, 29, was fatally shot and found by relatives inside a black sedan parked in front of his home, in the 3100 block of Northwest Fifth Court in the city.
Police said then they did not have a suspect or motive in the Jan. 19 killing, and Santiago said Friday he was not aware of any suspects detectives may have identified.
Lauderhill police ask anyone with information to call 954-497-4700. Broward County Crime Stoppers may also be called, at 954-493-8477. The organization accepts anonymous tips and pays up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest. police the
