Q: The exit from southbound Interstate 95 to Atlantic Boulevard involves a sharp right turn at the end of a straight forward exit lane. There is a steep decline on the left side of the curve. There used to be a yellow sign with a black arrow on it to help drivers see the curve. Now there is nothing. It is very scary, especially at night! Can we get more signage there? — Mary Southarg, Coral Springs.
A: We told the Florida Department of Transportation about your concerns and crews installed several new arrow signs at the exit, but that’s not the end of it. The Atlantic Boulevard exits in both directions on I-95 are undergoing extensive construction in Pompano Beach. Signage is changing all the time.
The southbound I-95 exit to westbound Atlantic Boulevard is completely closed through February. That big looping exit just south of Atlantic Boulevard is a temporary ramp that had a black arrow on a yellow sign as recently as Jan. 18, but it disappeared until new ones were installed last week.
These exit ramps are being closed overnights between midnight and 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays for bridge installation. Late night traffic can exit at Copans and Cypress Creek roads.
All this construction is part of the ongoing $154 million 95 Express Lanes Project in the northern half of Broward
County that is scheduled to end by 2020.
Q: Heading west on Palmetto Park Road, the street lights just before Boca Rio Road have been out for a year. Who is responsible and how do we get them on? Lori Verrette, Boca Raton.
A: Florida Power & Light Co. has been repairing more than 60,000 streetlights since Hurricane Irma.
Almost all the individual streetlights are back on, but FPL said repairs to some damaged underground power lines could take a while longer.
To report a streetlight outage, call FPL at 1-800-468-8243 or go online to FPL.com/streetlight. To report highway light failures, call the Florida Department of Transportation at 954-777-4090 or email: FDOT-D4PIO @dot.state.fl.us.
If neither of these agencies is responsible for a particular streetlight, they will relay your message to the appropriate city or county agency. Homeowner associations are responsible for streetlights within their gated communities.
