Honoring history’s racists is not the right thing to do

with threats of losing custody of their children.

FACTs, Families Against Court Travesties, was created in 2002 when the Palm Beach County chapter of NOW (National Organization for Women) acted after receiving numerous calls from desperate mothers, including many battered wives. Too many family courts minimize domestic violence and child abuse, resulting in placing mothers and children in jeopardy.

Many fathers are aided by biased judges and court-appointed personnel lured by financial payoffs from these fathers.

Just as President Trump, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Sen. Orrin Hatch turned a blind eye to these accusations of violence, these judges choose to ignore the women who are coming forward at great risk to themselves and their families. Where were the generators? Where were the families? Why didn’t they have emergency evacuation plans? Why is it that FPL would be responsible for these deaths? These were extenuating circumstances. We live in South Florida. We get hurricanes. How dare your newspaper make it look like FPL was responsible for these deaths.

I’m writing in regard to the Feb. 11 letter “Taking down U.S. statues is running from history, too.” Taking down statues of traitors who attempted to destroy our nation to keep one race in slavery is not running from history; it is doing the right thing. Why should we honor traitors?

If you don’t believe that the Civil War was about slavery and not states’ rights, read the “Corner Stone” Speech from the vice president of the Confederacy wherein he states: “Not so with the negro. Subordination is his place. He, by nature, or by the curse against Canaan, is fitted for that condition which he occupies in our system.”

Please quit this bull about honoring traitors and racists being the right historical thing to do. They also lost the war.
