Collectibles show small but mighty
They leafed through boxes stuffed with comic books, negotiated with vendors on the prices of sci-fi action figures, and recalled the days of their childhood.
The first People’s Convention in Margate was a small two-day affair, with about 20 vendors inside the Charles and Carol Katz Community Center selling a range of collectibles from comic books to military badges to musical instruments.
But the scale was, by design, a marketplace of collectibles of a residential community.
“We wanted to bring the event to the community for people who wouldn’t normally go to a major show, like in New York or Atlanta or San Diego, to allow them to see what it’s all about,” said Glaister Ormsby, who organized the event. He draws comic book covers, and has authored two comic books.
And he had his eye on a piece of sports memorabilia, a signed picture of former baseball slugger Mark McGwire.
“I’m a big baseball fan so grabbed my attention,” he said.
