Get 5 percent back at Whole Foods

- Doreen Christensen

Amazon has cooked up a new perk for Prime members, offering 5 percent back in rewards for purchases at Whole Foods Market with the new Amazon Prime Reward Visa credit card.

There is no annual fee or cap on rewards earned and they never expire. As a bonus, you’ll get a $70 Amazon.com gift card upon approval.

Members get 100 points for each $1 spent. Rewards can be redeemed for cash, travel or merchandise on Amazon.com.

The Chase-branded card also gives members 5 percent back on eligible Amazon.com purchases, 2 percent back on purchases at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1 percent back on all other purchases.

If you’re not a Prime member, you can still get the card and earn 3 percent back at the Amazon-owned organic grocery store.

It’s a pretty nice credit card offer that includes other benefits, including no foreign transaction fees when traveling abroad, zero fraud liability, and travel and purchases protections.

The Seattle-based Internet behemoth, which acquired the grocery chain in August for $13.7 billion, has been lowering prices on organic foods and giving Prime members special coupons to save at the store as it continues to integrate the companies.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced it would begin offering free two-hour delivery of natural and organic products from Whole Foods Market through Prime Now in select cities. The program hasn’t launched yet in South Florida, but Amazon says it plans to expand the program to other cities this year.

It shouldn’t be long. In June, Amazon opened a 50,000-square-foot Prime Now processing hub in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami and currently offers select Whole Foods organics and its Everyday 365 brand products for delivery.

Using the new credit card makes shopping at Whole Foods market that much more affordable.
