Miami’s J. Wakefield Brewing is collaborating with hip-hop group Run the Jewels on a craft beer inspired by Marvel’s blockbuster movie “Black Panther.”

The Panther Like a Panther stout will be infused with coffee beans from Wynwood cafe Panther Coffee, and will be served in its Wynwood taproom starting April 12. The date coincides with Run the Jewels’ concert that night at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.

The beer is named for a track on the duo’s 2016 album “Run the Jewels 3,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. It’s also being released in conjunction with the duo’s breathlessly ruthless song “Legend Has It,” recently featured in a commercial for “Black Panther.”

The politically barbed duo of Killer Mike and El-P are craft beer fans, and the rapper-producers also collaborated with Brooklyn’s Interboro Spirits and Ales and Chicago’s Pipeworks Brewing Company on two similar treatments of Panther Like a Panther.

Run the Jewels is planning to release two more beer collaborations, the pilsner Legend Has It and the IPA Down Double, later this year.

All three Panther Like a Panther beer labels were designed by artist Jermaine Rogers, who has designed concert posters for David Bowie, Radiohead, the Beastie Boys and the Melvins.

Reached by phone Thursday, Wakefield says he’s currently tweaking the coffee stout’s recipe, and plans to brew Panther Like a Panther in early March.

Killer Mike and El-P’s role in the beermaking process, Wakefield says, will be limited.

“They said they definitely wanted a stout,” Wakefield says, adding that neither musician will be helping him blend the beer in person. “I‘m looking for a smooth, mellow coffee with fruit and darkchocolate notes.”

More than 900 gallons of Panther Like a Panther will be brewed, Wakefield says.

Panther Like a Panther will be released April 12 at J. Wakefield Brewing, 120 NW 24th St., in Miami. Call 786-254-7779 or go to JWakefieldBrewing.com.
