DT Willie Moise makes early commitment to UM

Chaminade-Madonna Class of 2020 defensive tackle Willie Moise committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday morning.

He joins Class of 2019 defensive end/outside linebacker Cameron Williams as Chaminade defenders currently committed to UM. He also had offers from the likes of Tennessee, Oklahoma and LSU.

“Since I was young, I’ve always been a Hurricanes fan,” Moise said. “My family loves that school, so I just figured why not stay home.”

Although Moise has nearly two years to go before he actually signs, he added he’s “pretty sure” he sticks with UM throughout the whole recruiting process.

Moise, who was recruited as a defender but was a Sun Sentinel AllCounty second-team selection in Broward as an offensive lineman as a sophomore, played both sides of the ball but mostly offense, because that’s where the Lions needed him.

“He’s dynamic, physical, big and very athletic for a big man,” Chaminade coach Dameon Jones said. “Got a mean streak.

“[Miami] was very excited about it. They’ve been on him all year.”

Originally from South Florida, Moise moved to Valdosta, Ga., for his freshman year of high school before returning and playing for the Class 3A state champion Lions as a sophomore.

Moise would fill a key position of need, albeit a couple of years down the road, for the Hurricanes after defensive tackles R.J. McIntiosh and Kendrick Norton elected to enter the NFL draft a year early. UM, while holding on to the longtime commitment of American Heritage defensive tackle Nesta Silvera on National Signing Day, missed out on several other targets at the position late in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

They currently have one defensive tackle committed in the 2019 class, Miami Norland’s Denzel Daxon. Moise is the first interior defensive lineman to commit in the 2020 class, which already has seven commitments.

Miami is expected to name Jess Simpson its new defensive line coach after Craig Kuligowski took the same job at Alabama.
