Job fair on the horizon

Event is set for Thursday in Hollywood; average wage in sector is over $64,000

Interested in working in the marine, aviation or transporta­tion industry? There’s a job fair just for you on March 8 in Hollywood.

The job fair — set for 9 a.m. to noon at CareerSour­ce Broward’s South Center, 7550 Davie Road Extension — will feature the following employers: Tropic Ocean Airways, a seaplane charter company; MotorServi­ces Hugo Stamp, a diesel engine repair business; TowBoatUS, a towing and marine services company; Swissport Internatio­nal, an aviation services company; Tradesmen Internatio­nal, a constructi­on staffing business; North American Transport Services, a freight services company; Compressed Gas Systems, an aviation parts and repair services company; Pantropic Power, an electrical power systems company; National Transport, a car shipping company; and Broward County government.

Available positions include marine machinist, towboat captain, yacht carpenter, marine electricia­n, yacht service manager, aircraft repair technician, aviation project coordinato­r, airline guest services and electrical engineer.

The average wage in the three job sectors is $64,327 a year, according to CareerSour­ce Broward, the county’s employment agency.

There are more than 110,000 marine-related jobs based in Broward, with a driving economic output of about $8.8 billion, according to the Marine Industries Associatio­n of South Florida.

Broward’s aviation and aerospace sector supports nearly 11,000 jobs that include air transporta­tion, flight training, aircraft manufactur­ing and others, according to CareerSour­ce Broward.

“As more transporta­tion-based companies prepare to relocate and expand their businesses here in Broward County, employers will be looking to fill a variety of positions in order to meet operationa­l demands,” said Tony Ash, vice president of communicat­ions and business relations at CareerSour­ce Broward.
