Trained officers key to protecting students Read more online
In response to the March 4 editorial (“Local profiles in courage shame Tallahassee”), I’m stunned that anyone thinks banning assault-type weapons would have in any way stopped this killer at Stoneman Douglas High School.
Any weapon is already banned from schools. This killer was going to kill. If not his gun, then a bomb or car, or? Stop focusing on guns. Protecting students will take trained officers ready to step in and step up.
Someone suggested doing a study. Hello, what’s to study? No one protected this school from this well-planned assault. He was on the radar and that did nothing. He figured no one would stop him and he was right.
Students and their parents have the right to know now that schools will have the proper protection, period. SunSentinel.com/ opinion/letters
are, David!
All of us registering voters and signing up voters to receive their ballots at home are not going to stop until voting day. Ballots are mailed early, thus giving voters plenty of time to complete and mail (postage is free) or hand deliver them to the offices of Supervisor of Election Brenda Snipes.
Additionally, voter registration is available online. You can also make an update, address change, etc., or replace a voter ID card. Go to www.browardsoe.org.
If you have a friend or neighbor who prefers to vote at her/his designated precinct, but they don’t drive, etc., offer to give them a ride. Every one of us has to be diligent in making sure every single registered voter votes. Our vote is the only voice we have. to frighten their members into thinking that all guns will be taken away.
The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms, but it is not without limitations. Just as the First Amendment’s right to free speech has limitations, so does the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.
Sensible citizens, including gun owners, should not be taken in by the NRA’s scare tactics. Common sense should tell us that assault weapons should not be in the hands of citizens.
