Becca Kufrin was named the new “Bachelorette’’ Tuesday night before a live audience on ABC.

And there by her side to support and celebrate with her was Caroline Lunny, the Fort Lauderdale resident who was a contestant on “The Bachelor” this past season. Along with contestants Bekah Martinez, Kendall Long, Seinne Fleming and Tia Booth, Lunny sat on stage to discuss Monday night’s brutal finale when former race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to Kufrin in Peru and then broke up with her weeks later in Los Angeles for another chance with the runner-up contestant, Lauren Burnham.

During Tuesday night’s two-hour special “After the Final Rose’’ show, Lunny said “It’s hurtful the way he has zero empathy.” She added, “It breaks my heart to watch her go through this. She is such a good person. It’s really not cool.”

Lunny, a Holliston, Mass., native lives in Fort Lauderdale where she sells real estate. A former cheerleader, she was Miss Teen USA Massachusetts in 2008. Some viewers of “The Bachelor” thought Lunny should have been the front runner this season and said she left the show too soon in January when Luyendyk didn’t give her a rose during one of the ceremonies.

But when host Chris Harrison named Kufrin as the new “Bachelorette” Tuesday night, Lunny and four other contestants joined her on stage, with Kufrin sitting on Lunny’s lap during the segment.

“The guys are really lucky,’’ Lunny said as the group of ladies laughed and celebrated.

The new season of “The Bachelorette” kicks off May 28 on ABC.
