KU’s Azubuike out with injury

-

Kansas center Udoka Azubuike sprained his left knee during a scrimmage and will miss the Big 12 tournament, putting his availability for the NCAA tournament in question.

Jayhawks coach Bill Self said Wednesday that Azubuike hurt the medial collateral ligament in his knee the previous day. The medical staff called it a “Grade 1” sprain and Azubuike will be evaluated again Sunday, though Self hopes to have him back on the court next week.

The 7-foot Azubuike, who is Kansas’ only significant inside presence, is averaging 13.7 points and 7.1 rebounds this season.

The ninth-ranked and top-seeded Jayhawks open the Big 12 tournament Thursday.

Missouri standout Michael Porter Jr. will play in the SEC tournament Thursday — his first time in a game since the season opener.

The 6-foot-10 Porter, the top prep prospect in the country last season, has been out since playing only two minutes in the Tigers’ victory over Iowa State. He underwent back surgery in November and was expected to miss the rest of the season.

Jerome Robinson made a pull-up jumper with 17 seconds left to break a tie, then forced a turnover on an inbounds play moments later as 12th-seeded Boston College earned a 91-87 win over fifth-seeded North Carolina State (21-11) in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in New York. Robinson scored 26 points and Ky Bowman added 24 for the Eagles (19-14) . ... Quentin Snider scored 19 points, Ray Spalding had 18 and ninthseeded Louisville (20-12) built a huge lead before knocking off eighth-seeded Florida State 82-74. The Seminoles (20-11) trailed by as many as 26 points in the second half.

McKinley Wright IV had 20 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, and eighthseeded Colorado (17-14) put a dent in Arizona State’s NCAA tournament hopes with a 97-85 win over the ninth-seeded Sun Devils (20-11) in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament. AP
