St. Patrick’s events to close streets now

Some streets will be closed to traffic in downtown Fort Lauderdale beginning this morning in preparatio­n for the Shamrock Run and other St. Patrick’s Day events planned for Saturday. Expect traffic congestion and delays in and around the detoured areas throughout Saturday.

Among the road and lane closures:

Friday, 9 a.m. — Southeast 1st Avenue from E. Las Olas Boulevard to the south side of the FAU/BC Tower parking lot driveway will be closed until midnight Saturday.

10:30 a.m. — E. Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southeast 1st Avenue will be closed through midnight Saturday.

Saturday, 6:30-10 a.m. — E. Las Olas Boulevard between Southeast 1st Avenue and 10th Terrace will be closed for the Shamrock Run that begins in Huizenga Plaza at Andrews Avenue and E. Las Olas Boulevard.

All lanes of E. Las Olas Boulevard between Southeast 1st and 6th avenues will be closed for the run.

Sixth Avenue to Broward Boulevard will be closed,

Only one lane of Broward Boulevard will be closed to Victoria Park Road,

Northeast 15th Avenue to Northeast 2nd Street to 16th Avenue to 7th Street will be closed, but people who live in the area will be allowed to drive in and out intermitte­ntly,

Only one lane of Victoria Park Road to Broward Boulevard will be closed.

From Broward Boulevard, Southeast 17th Avenue to 2nd Court to 10th Terrace to E. Las Olas Boulevard will be closed to the finish line in front of Huizenga Plaza.

Fort Lauderdale Police will direct local traffic along the run route through 12:30 p.m. but residents of Colee Hammock and Victoria Park are advised to avoid these streets and follow the detours.

Meanwhile, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival will close other streets in the area Saturday.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. — North New River Drive East eastbound lanes will be closed,

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — E. Las Olas Boulevard between Southeast 1st and 8th avenues will be closed,

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Andrews Avenue from Las Olas Boulevard to Southwest 2nd Street; W. Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southwest 1st Avenue; Southwest 1st Avenue from Las Olas Boulevard to Southwest 2nd Street; Southwest 2nd Street from Andrews Avenue to Southwest 2nd Avenue; and the intersecti­ons of E. Las Olas Boulevard at Southeast 2nd, 3rd and 6th avenues will be closed.

Roads will be opened intermitte­ntly for north and southbound traffic until 11:15 a.m. Business and residentia­l traffic will be allowed into the areas but will be detoured around the closed streets.
