Florida should be praised for action on school safety, guns

-

In regard to the March 10 article “Scott signs gun bill; NRA files federal suit,” Florida has taken a fairly bold stand and should be applauded. The governor has signed into law some fairly benign requirements related to gun purchases that will help. The NRA should support that approach for safe and sane gun ownership rather than challenge it in court.

However, it is self-evident that the only way to stop mass shootings is to eliminate the capability to fire mass quantities of bullets. We must reduce the speed that a weapon can be fired and eliminate clip-loading entirely. This reduction in capability of all weapons is the only method that would stop mass shootings. It will not stop all shootings or killings by any means, but what it will do is make it extremely difficult to kill large numbers of people with the weapon of choice — guns. This one step is a must for our safety and that of our children.
