South Florida gets two new circuit judges

Gov. Rick Scott on Monday announced two new judicial appointmen­ts — one in Broward County and one in Palm Beach County.

A Fort Lauderdale criminal defense attorney and a Palm Beach Gardens federal prosecutor will serve the circuit courts in Broward and Palm Beach counties, respective­ly.

Tarlika Navarro, 35, is a former Broward County prosecutor practice.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Miami and her law degree at St. Thomas University.

Navarro will fill the seat opened up by Broward Circuit Judge Alfred Horowitz’s resignatio­n.

Carolyn Bell, 56, is a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida. now in private She previously served as a senior trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Bell received both her Bachelor’s and law degrees at the University of California at Berkeley and will fill the vacancy created by Palm Beach Circuit Judge Thomas Barkdull’s resignatio­n.
