Friday’s game: Sandy Alcantara, trying to nail down a spot in the Marlins starting rotation, couldn’t get his former batterymate out in a 4-2 loss to the Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Yadier Molina, who caught the promising right-hander when he debuted last September with St. Louis, had three hits off him including a long home run. Molina also singled off Alcantara and just missed another homer with a drive off the top of the fence in left. Molina’s double, which followed Tommy Pham’s leadoff triple in the fifth, ended Alcantara’s bid to complete five innings. He allowed three runs and six hits while walking three and striking out four. He threw 74 pitches, 47 for strikes. Molina homered off a 95-mph fastball that was up. “I have no idea how he got his hands out that fast and got the barrel on it,” said Alcantara, acquired in the trade for Marcell Ozuna, who had a double past third base. But Alcantara got his breaking ball working over his last two innings and had a stretch with three consecutive strikeouts. “The thing with the breaking ball is we want him to get his arm going and throw it. I thought as the game went on, his breaking ball got better,” said manager Don Mattingly, adding his assessment of Alcantara’s camp. “I think he’s been pretty good. Obviously, a lot has been thrown on him with the trade and everything, but I think he’s handled everything really well.” ... Molina, who drove in three of the Cardinals runs, had four hits and got his second homer of the day in the seventh off Junichi Tazawa . ... Derek Dietrich hit his team-leading third homer for Miami, a towering drive to right off Michael Wacha. That was the only run Wacha allowed in six innings.
