Angela Muñiz Rutherford, AT&T: Be bold
Angela Muñiz Rutherford was recently appointed assistant vice president and general manager, national business for AT&T Business, from her previous role as assistant vice president and general manager — Small Business Solutions, in Fort Lauderdale.
Why I’m a good fit for the job: My new role is part of a larger reorganization of our National Business team.
The company is appointing over a dozen GM leaders in markets across the U.S. and hiring hundreds of frontline sellers.
Additionally, with my 20 years of business sales experience at AT&T, and I started my career in Florida, I have a strong foundation and understanding of the business climate here.
On the job
Top personal professional goal: Helping our customers grow by finding solutions that meet their needs. We want them to view us as a strategic partner to help their businesses succeed.
Typical day: I lead a team of more than 50 sellers, stationed across the state. I also work with several channels in support of our customers. My days consist of coaching and developing employees, meeting with customers and spending time in AT&T retail stores, where many of our SMBs go for support.
Industry wisdom: Communication and transparency are key: No matter how easy or tough a situation can be, transparency helps build trust.
What’s new: The speed in which you need to stay up to date with current technology trends and evolving industries.
Professional development
Lead: I feel it’s very important to give back to others who are looking for career advice and guidance. So, I participate as a mentor for several of our employee resource groups at AT&T, most recently for Women of AT&T. I’m also a mentor of one of our leadership development programs within the company.
Perform: I’m a three-time winner of our company’s most prestigious sales award, now called Diamond Club. It’s an annual recognition the top-tier of sales and marketing professionals in AT&T Business.
Grow: Step out of your comfort zone; take risks, be bold.
