Q: For months on Glades Road there have been orange barrels set up and nobody working, EVER! What is going on? Barbara Janower, Boca Raton. A: Most road construction is done overnight to minimize traffic troubles so that is why you probably don’t see a lot of daytime activity.
There are two construction projects on Glades Road. One involves the interchange with Florida’s Turnpike and the other stretches more than seven miles between State Road 7 and U.S. 1.
Paving on the turnpike interchange at Glades Road should be complete in the next several weeks, officials said.
Work on the rest of Glades Road includes repaving, installing guardrails, sidewalks, driveways, drainage improvements, signs, fiber optic cables, pedestrian crossing signals, mast arms for traffic signals, vehicle sensors, streetlights, and pavement striping and markings.
All of that is expected to be done by the fall. Keep in mind asphalt must be paved at temperatures above 65 degrees, so cooler overnight weather can slow the pace, officials said.
Q: Does anyone know if there are plans for a traffic light at the intersection of 178th Avenue and Pembroke Road? The intersection is so dangerous and chaotic. Marie Modic, Miramar.
A: It looks like traffic signals are coming to that increasingly busy intersection between Mir-
amar and Pembroke Pines.
The plans are 90 percent complete, according to the Broward County Public Works department.
The traffic lights will be mounted on hurricanestrength, black metal mast arms complete with pedestrian crossing signals that beep and have countdown timers.
Plans include repaving the intersection, as well. Construction will begin sometime next year, officials said. Update: The $4.7 million, 2-year Ravenswood Road bridge replacement and Dania Cut-Off Canal dredging project is finished.
It opened to vehicle and boat traffic earlier this month.
