BOCA RATON — Dwayne Adams gave Broward County its first lead at 80-79 with 4:55 remaining en route to a 98-90 victory over MiamiDade County on Sunday night in the 24th annual TOC Sports South Florida All-Star Basketball Classic at Grandview Prep.

Adams, a senior out of Boyd Anderson, finished with 18 points and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

“We started out the game and we weren’t really feeling it ... still trying to get to know each other,” said Adams, who has yet to decide where he will play college ball. “But after a while we just started putting pressure on them and then we started to feel each other.”

Aamir Whitehead, of South Broward High, added 13 points for the Broward All-Stars and American Heritage’s Nick Backer had 10.

Whitehead’s 3-pointer with 1:50 left gave Broward the lead for good, 91-88.

“Feels good because there was a lot of trash talking before the game,” said Ricardo Saams, of Somerset Academy Miramar. “So, feels nice.”

Miami-Dade led 51-42 at the half.

Deandre Pinkney, of Carol City, led Dade with 15 points and Dominick Garcia, of SLAM Academy, had 13.

PALM BEACH SOUTH 91, PALM BEACH NORTH 83: St. John Paul II’s David Curlee led the South with 14 points to take MVP honors.

The South broke out to a 56-38 halftime lead and never looked back. Seven points would be as close as the North would get in the second half.

Santaluces’ Marcus Bentley and Spanish River’s Jashone Anderson added 11 points each for the South.

Inlet Grove’s Dante Moses led the North with 19 points. Forest Hill’s Philip Lyttle and Wellington’s Bryan Williams had 14 and 11, respectively.

In the girls games, Miami-Dade swept both contests.

DADE I 74, BROWARD I 67: Miami Norland’s Edreana Jackson led Dade with 19 points and Miami Northwestern’s Ericka Pratt had 14. Everglades’ Melissa Brown led Broward with 12 points and Rachel McCree, of Cypress Bay, added 11.

DADE II 85, BROWARD II 80: Natalia Pineda (Ferguson) and Andrea Gomez (Miami High) had 18 points apiece to lead Dade. Kristi Stephens, of Blanche Ely, led Broward with 14 points and Dillard’s Ayana Emmanuel had 13 points.
