Monday’s game: The Marlins had what would be a game to remember against three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer had it occurred in the regular season. They got home runs from Garrett Cooper, Derek Dietrich and Brian Anderson on the way to scoring six runs against the Nationals’ Opening Day starter in a 9-1 win at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Newly acquired Eric Jagielo and Scott Van Slyke added late-inning homers off Shawn Kelley. It was a reminder to not put much stock in spring training results. Dietrich hit a three-run drive to right and also had a sacrifice fly after Miguel Rojas led off the bottom of the first with a triple. Dietrich, with four homers, leads the Marlins with 10 RBI. Anderson, who will open the season at third base, also has four homers. Cooper, competing for a back-up spot at first and the outfield, hit his second spring homer to center . ... RHP Trevor Richards, the Marlins’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017, held the Nationals to one run and four hits in four innings . ... Dan Straily tossed four scoreless innings in a minor league game . ... CF Lewis Brinson showed off his arm in throwing out the Nationals’ Adrian Sanchez at the plate with room to spare.
