Express lanes have replaced some HOV lanes.

Doctor Detour answers your transportation questions.

Q: I have two people in my vehicle when I drive in the HOV lane on Interstate 95 between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. But 99 percent of the other vehicles have only one. Why is there no enforcement? The HOV restrictions here are really a joke. Can you explain? — Jan Storm, Fort Lauderdale.

A: Yes. The HOV lanes are only in effect between 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. weekdays.

In addition, the HOV lanes disappeared in Broward County to make way for construction of express lanes. You won’t get a ticket for driving solo in the left lane on I-95 between Fort Lauderdale Deerfield Beach.

HOV signs are still hanging above the left lane and white diamonds are still on the pavement in parts of Palm Beach County.

But the next phase of express lane construction is already underway so it may not and be too long before these disappear from the highway in Delray Beach as well. There are no HOV lanes on I-95 north of Jupiter.

Q: I fear vehicles might get stuck on the Brightline train tracks because of the quickness of the warning light system. It happened to me at Camino Real. Why don’t the lights flash before the gates begin to close? — Beverly Lo-
