RHP Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) vs. RHP Jose Urena (0-1, 4.91, 1.36): Urena was markedly better in his second start as he held the Red Sox to one run for seven innings, striking out seven and walking only one while throwing a career-high 109 pitches. … Syndergaard lasted only four innings in his latest outing due to his pitch count at 92. He struck out seven while allowing two runs and four hits to the Phillies.

TRANSACTIONS

The Marlins selected the contract of RHP Tyler Cloyd from Triple-A New Orleans and designated RHP Jacob Turner for assignment. Cloyd has appeared in 20 games (17 starts) in the majors, most recently with the Mariners in 2017; he is 5-9 with a 5.92 career ERA in 94 1⁄3 innings. Turner’s second tour with Miami was brief due to allowing 10 runs in 5 2⁄3 innings over four relief appearances. He was rocked for eight runs in one inning Saturday against the Phillies.
