Brazil’s butt-lift Barbie-like doll draws criticism
Maybe this doll would be a better fit in South Florida?
A Barbie-like doll featured with a butt lift has drawn criticism in Brazil where it will go on sale this summer. Critics of the big booty doll say that the toy will encourage young girls to get plastic surgery, according to
Created by the Miss BumBum pageant, for which it’s named after, the doll comes with “authentic Brazilian curves” and is dressed in a yellow and green swimsuit that covers the enhanced bottom. The doll is set to go on sale Aug. 8 when the Miss BumBum contest takes place, the story said.
Sara Winter, a candidate for federal deputy in Brazil and a feminist, has threatened legal action to stop the doll from being sold.
“This is really serious,’’ she said in the story. “The doll’s bottom is completely disproportionate. A bottom that big is almost impossible to achieve without surgery.”
She added that the “doll will frustrate young girls, making them believe that this is the body they should have and aspire to.”
But Cacau Oliver, the pageant’s founder, turned the other cheek in regards to the toy’s critics.
“I don’t see any problem in commercializing a Miss BumBum doll. My public are not my children. The doll will be sold,” he said in a statement in The Daily Mirror.
