The Downtown Business Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce announced the 2018 Downtowner of the Year award winner: Kelley Shanley, president and chief executive officer of the Performing Arts Center Authority, which operates the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce is honoring local educators at its annual Teachers of the year breakfast May 3 at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort. Levenson was honored with the Boy Scouts of America’s NESA Outstandin­g Eagle Scout Award at this year’s South Florida Council Recognitio­n Dinner recently. The award is given to Eagle Scouts who have gone on to, among other things, perform distinguis­hed service to their profession avocation, community and beliefs at great sacrifice to themselves and their families. The selection of recipients is made by the local council National Eagle Scout Associatio­n committee, scout executive and council president. Levenson has served as an executive board member of the South Florida Council for more than 13 years. He is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow and a previous recipient of the Founder’s Award, Centurion Award and Silver Beaver Award.

St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital announced David O’Brien , as their new chief operating officer. O’Brien has held a variety of executive operationa­l and nursing leadership positions throughout his career. Most recently he was the chief operating officer of Hilton Head Hospital and chief nursing officer of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center and Coral Gables Hospital. West Boca Medical Center promoted Tracey Brown, R.N. as its new director of emergency services. Previously, Brown was the assistant director of the emergency department at West Boca. Podiatric physician Wayne has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, a network of primary care doctors and specialist­s, as part of Miami Orthopedic­s & Sports Medicine Institute. Medical oncologist Lauren Carcas has joined the multidisci­plinary team of breast cancer specialist­s at Miami Cancer Institute. The North Broward Hospital District Board of Commission­ers elected Andrew Klein as chairman at their April 18 board meeting. Klein, who was appointed to the Board by Gov. Scott on August 25, 2017, will lead the board that governs the district, which does business under the name Broward Health. Klein is the managing attorney at Klein Law Group PLLC.

Mark E. Pomper, M.D. has been named medical director at CyberKnife Center of Miami. Pomper is founder and medical director of Horizon Medical Services, a mobile radiation company. His profession­al experience also includes medical director of the Radiation Oncology Department­s at Jackson South Community Hospital and Cedars Medical Center. Pomper is a Gamma Knife Oncologist and Specialist at Doctors and Larkin Hospitals in the South Miami area as well. Pomper has also served as Instructor of Radiologic Technology for the State of Florida Office of Radiation Control and is a Pro-Assurance Malpractic­e Advisory Committee Member.

Cross Country Home Services, a provider of home protection, maintenanc­e and manage- ment, announced Adam Aharonoff as vice president of technology. The Sonitrol National Dealers Associatio­n has elected John Ray III, president and chief executive officer of Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale, as its president. Based in Orlando, the associatio­n represents Sonitrol’s network of 60 dealers operating in 125 major markets across the country that distribute and service the company’s fully integrated verified electronic security solutions. Under Ray’s leadership, SNDA will educate the public about verified alarm technology’s ability to enhance police officers’ safety; conserve law enforcemen­t resources and increase the rate of arrest while crimes are underway.

Tiffani Dhooge has been named chief operating officer of Children’s Harbor, the nonprofit agency that provides a safe harbor and support to at risk children, youth and families, keeping brothers and sisters together while in the foster care system.

Tom Lindner to vice president, in Coconut Creek. Prior to Joining BDCSI, Lindner had worked for Charter Schools USA, the Broward County School District and JM Family Enterprise­s in facility management roles. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Lindner also served as a Captain in the United States Navy.
