Chain to bring restaurant to former Solid Gold site.

A former nude nightclub is being stripped of its past in Oakland Park.

The City Commission has approved a Bahama Breeze Caribbean chain restaurant in place of the former Solid Gold, 3339-3347 N. Federal Highway. The club will be torn down.

Last year, the city of Oakland Park prevailed in its 30-year battle against strip clubs, forcing them out and planning to replace them with family-friendly development. The city won decisively in federal appeals court in March 2017, and the nowconsolidated clubs of Solid Gold and Pure Platinum moved to Pompano Beach months later.

Bahama Breeze restaurants typically offer burgers, salads, seafood and chicken with a Caribbean flair. Cocktails are made with fresh juices and pressed sugarcane, and music includes classic Caribbean and reggae. The chain is owned by Darden, the same company with brands such as Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse.

The Bahama Breeze restaurant in Oakland Park would be open until 1 a.m.

Commissioner Michael E. Carn said he was “appreciative of this scale of restaurant wanting to relocate in our city,” especially to a “site that has much need of improvement.”

A city spokesman said staff is finalizing documents to allow the developer to begin demolition and start filing for construction permits.

The former Pure Platinum location will also be the site of redevelopment. Developers are planning a new community on the site of the empty building at 3411 N. Federal Highway. Plans submitted to City Hall call for 31,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, 165 apartments and a five-story parking garage.
