deal to hire Spurs assistant coach James Borrego as their next coach, The Associated Press reported. Borrego, 40, has spent 15 years an NBA assistant coach, 10 of those with the Spurs under Gregg Popovich. He also served as an interim coach with the Magic late in 2015-16 season after Jacque Vaughn was fired . ... Timberwolves assistant coach Rick Brunson abruptly resigned. NFL: Niners LB Reuben Foster pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from allegations that he attacked his thengirlfriend in their home in February. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 17, at which point Foster’s former girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, may testify under oath . ... Saints RB Mark Ingram was suspended for the first four regular-season games because of a violation of the league’s performance enhancing drugs policy. Last season, Ingram rushed for a career-high 1,124 yards and 12 TDs to go with 416 yards receiving . ... The Redskins re-signed G Shawn Lauvao, who has spent the last four seasons in Washington, starting all 41 of his appearances . ... The Florida Panthers will host a hockey clinic for visually impaired children from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the BB&T Center.
The event, in conjunction with Lighthouse of Broward, will be for the organization’s kids ages 8 to 18. It will include an audio tour of the BB&T Center and a clinic using specially tailored floorball equipment.
In January, the team hosted 13-year-old Sydney Delcontivo for a day; she toured the arena and met Panthers players and coaches. The Panthers also donated $25,000 to Lighthouse of Broward.
According to the team, the money will be used to build a sensory garden that will help with orientation and mobility training, plus health and education programming.
