Ron Bergeron is among the winners of the Sun Sentinel’s Excalibur Awards.
A developer, energy entrepreneur, hotel real estate developer and the head of a real estate consultancy were honored Wednesday evening as winners of the Sun Sentinel’s Excalibur Awards.
The awards, which have recognized business achievement and civic contributions annually since 1978, were presented at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.
Ron Bergeron, CEO of the Bergeron Family of Cos., which oversees 60 privately held companies, won Large Business Leader of the Year in Broward County for his philanthropy and for spearheading infrastructure and housing development growth.
Ramola Motwani, chairwoman of Merrimac Ventures in Fort Lauderdale, is credited for helping to transform Fort Lauderdale’s beachfront into a world-class hotel and tourist destination. She was named Small Business Leader of the Year in Broward.
William Koch, CEO of Oxbow Carbon LLC in West Palm Beach, was named Large Business Leader of the Year in Palm Beach County. He was cited for his contributions to education and local law enforcement.
Anthony K.G. Barbar, president and CEO of Barbar & Associates, a real estate consultancy in Boca Raton, was honored for his contributions in the development field and community involvement, which includes his multi-year service as chairman of the board of trustees of his alma mater, Florida Atlantic University. He was named Small Business Leader of the Year in Palm Beach County.
Winners were selected by panels of past business leaders of the year from Broward and Palm Beach counties, and by Sun Sentinel Media Group senior management.
