Marlins recall Conley, Peters
Two familiar faces will be back with the Marlins.
The team recalled lefthanded pitchers Adam Conley and Dillon Peters on Friday afternoon from Triple-A New Orleans, filling the voids left by righthanders Junichi Tazawa and Tyler Cloyd. The Marlins designated Tazawa for assignment and optioned Cloyd to New Orleans on Thursday afternoon.
Conley was a mainstay in the Marlins rotation across the last three seasons, making 56 starts and compiling a 4.60 ERA in 303 innings. After a rough start this season in New Orleans (19.64 ERA in his first three starts), the 27-year-old has rebounded nicely (1.93 ERA in his last five). Most recently, Conley delivered eight innings of one-run ball on Monday night.
Peters began the season in the Marlins rotation but was shipped to the minors as Miami welcomed back Wei-Yin Chen and Dan Straily. Peters has a 6.31 ERA in six outings this season for the Marlins, though the number is inflated by a nine-run start against the Phillies. In two starts in the minors, Peters allowed five runs and struck out 10 in 12 innings.
Conley and Peters were part of a six-man rotation in New Orleans and now enter a crowded situation with the Marlins pitching staff. The team already has five starters, with Jarlin Garcia set to rejoin the rotation after a temporary shutdown. Conley and Peters have made seven combined relief appearances.
