DAVIE — Frank Gore’s lifelong dream was always to play professionally in his hometown, and it wasn’t so much about wearing the aqua and orange jersey since he never grew up a Miami Dolphins fan.

Gore’s NFL career has taken him all over the country, but he’s only played one game in South Florida. That was in 2015 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts in a contest where he rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Injuries, the schedule and business were never in his favor when it came to showcasing himself in front of his hometown, and as a result his interaction with his first child, Frank Gore Jr., who was born while Gore was in college at the University of Miami, was limited to three visits during the season, and the offseason.

Gore always wanted more, and finally he has that opportunity.

That’s why it was a special day Thursday as Gore Jr. and his Miami Killian teammates attended the Dolphins’ organized team activities. It became a take your child to work day for Gore, who spoke with his son’s coaches for roughly 10 minutes at the conclusion of the Dolphins’ session.

Gore was probably instructing head coach Steve Smith and Killian offensive coordinator Tim Neal, who coached Gore Sr. and Jr. at Coral Gables High, to push his son.

Gore doesn’t want an easy road for his first born, which is why he took him out of private school last year and made him attend his alma mater, Coral Gables High, which he’s since transferred from.

“I remember them babying him because he showed flashes as a freshman,” Gore said. “I wanted him to go to public school at Coral Gables so he could see more talent, see that he has to work hard.”
