Life term is more than shooter Cruz deserves

- Sarina Eliyakim, Fort Lauderdale Abe Rapheal, Sunrise Roberta Chaleff, Tamarac

After watching Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz’s cellphone videos, I wonder why we would keep that criminal locked up for years instead of ending his days in 30 minutes. He has to be fed and monitored, which costs money. Sure, it won’t help us to get those young innocents murdered in cold blood back, but my suggestion is the best for a person who was conscious of his acts when he triggered the deadly weapon. His disappearance in our world would only calm us down.

the Putnam campaign. Although I am not in agreement, I do respect their right to express them.

There is no argument that Publix does a lot for our communities such as supporting charities, employing the unemployable, feeding the hungry and helping the homeless. For this they should be applauded. However, there is a big difference between charitable contributions and political donations. The $600,000-plus donation to the Putnam campaign is not to help the unfortunate but to buy influence — pure and simple. This is not uncommon among corporations as this is also done by FPL, Disney, Big Sugar and others seeking to gain political favor up the road.

I cannot blame people for being upset at the enormity of this donation to a candidate who professes unregulated gun ownership in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas massacre. I think these corporations would be better served if they rerouted their political donations to charitable organizations and stayed out of the political arena where they are bound to inflame the public on this sensitive issue.

Pathetic as it may seem, there is still a chance for political rehabilitation in this country if all the men and women involved would just take those pacifiers out of their mouths, grow up, and begin working along side of one another. In case you’ve forgotten, that’s the American way.
