5 projects fuel downtown Davie boom
‘We haven’t seen this in decades’
With five projects either on the drawing board or in the final construction phase, Davie is in the middle of a housing boom.
“We’re on the right path,” said Phillip R. Holste, Davie’s assistant town administrator and interim director of the Community Redevelopment Agency. “If you look at the downtown, we haven’t seen redevelopment like this in decades. It’s exciting to see the vision that’s been developed actually come to fruition.”
Zona Village, a mixeduse project at the site of a former Winn-Dixie supermarket on the northeast corner of Davie Road and Southwest 39th Street, has been approved and could begin construction by year’s end, according to its developer. The project calls for 209 garden apartments and 31,000 square feet of commercial use including restaurants, shops and office space.
The four story-apartment complex will have 113 studios, 74 one-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom units. Amenities will include a clubhouse, swimming pool and activity deck above the parking garage.
Zona Village “is a true lifestyle development,” said Jeremy Bedzow, founder and managing principal of the developer Ceiba Groupe. He said this new project will attract “all sorts of students and young professionals” to a development that’s “perfect for an up-and-coming new downtown.”
Downtown Davie is a project under construction that calls for 855 upscale dorm rooms spread among five, four-story buildings and one, five-story tower. It will have about 30,000 square feet of shops, cafes and offices on the ground floors.
The project, to accommodate college students, especially those from Nova Southeastern University, will be the town’s first mixed-use project.
