SouthTech Academy in Boynton Beach named Eileen Turenne as the school’s new principal. Turenne was previously assistant principal of curriculum. The Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens recently announced Miryam Buchler as the new director of the Barbara & Jack Kay Early Childhood Learning Center. Buchler was previously assistant director for the school. Blake Whealy has joined the board of directors of Communities In Schools Miami. Based directly inside schools throughout MiamiDade Whealy County, Communities In Schools connects children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources, tailored to each student’s specific needs. Whealy is director of International Commercial at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Oxbridge Academy announced the appointment of two new members of the private school’s Board of Trustees: Amanda Schumacher and Matthew Smith, both of Palm Beach. Schumacher is the founder and president of the Tree of Life Foundation International, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support other organizations locally and globally; founder and president of the Tree of Life Center, and her other businesses: Tree of Life Designer Store, Tree of Life Enterprise Services, and Insurance of the Palm Beaches, and is vice president of Schumacher Automotive. Smith is the chairman of Shoes For Crews Smith LLC, where he has worked for more than 25 years. Florida Atlantic University’s Board of Trustees has awarded FAU First Lady Carolyn Kelly this year’s BOT Service Award. This award recognizes friends of the university who contribute their time and expertise to FAU through sustained and exemplary service. Since coming to FAU in 2014, Kelly has helped to raise significant funds for student scholarships through the Kelly Family Scholarship Fund and the Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program, along with her husband, FAU President John Kelly. Both of these programs provide financial assistance to talented students who otherwise might not be able to afford a college education. Additionally, Carolyn Kelly was the architect behind the book “Legacymakers: 100 Women of Distinction at Florida Atlantic University,” and she played an integral role in creating the “FAU High School M.D. Direct” program, which places high school students directly in line for medical school at FAU,
