Miami Film Month offers $8 independent films through June
Throughout June, South Florida residents can enjoy $8 movie tickets at independent theaters as part of Miami Film Month. From documentaries on Fred Rogers to stories on holistic medicinal practices, the six participating theaters are featuring films.

Here are a few films screening at each location:
“Hearts Beat Loud” (June 15-21 at O Cinema Wynwood): Starring Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons, “Hearts Beat Loud” is a reportedly feel-good film about a single dad struggling to keep his record store open as his daughter, Sam, prepares to leave for college. Sam and her father come together through their love for music to start a band called We’re Not a Band and produce a Spotify hit that reunites their relationship and could keep the doors to the family store open.
“Mary Shelley” (June 15-21 at the Bill Cosford Cinemas): “Mary Shelley,” starring Elle Fanning, tells the story of the 18-year-old’s dream to be a writer and her love affair with poet Percy Shelley that results in her novel “Frankenstein.”
“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” (June 22-25 at Coral Gables Art Cinema): This documentary, produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, paints a portrait of Fred Rogers. This film gives the audience a look into the heart of Rogers and the events that shaped him into a creative genius and host of his influential children’s show.
“The Doctor From India” (12:30 p.m. June 16 at O Cinema Miami Beach): This documentary examines the meditative life and practices of Vasant Lad, a holistichealth pioneer who brought India’s ancient medicinal practice of Ayurveda to the West. The film tells the “story of a man who has for decades been quietly at the center of a revolutionary movement to change the way we care for our bodies and our spirits,” O Cinema’s website states.
“First Reformed” (7 p.m. June 23 at Miami Beach Cinematheque): This thriller tackles tells the story of the Rev. Ernst Toller and his crisis in faith. Toller, played by Ethan Hawke, begins to spiral out of control after he interacts with an unstable, radical environmentalist and his pregnant wife. The film was written and directed by Paul Schrader, of “Raging Bull” and “Taxi Driver” fame.
