Stamp collecting a good teacher

While high school and college graduates may be proficient on math, physics and the sciences, they often aren't so smart on the subjects of history and geography.

Ask them to name the original 13 states, five countries in Africa and South America or what happened at Appomattox Court House, and you likely won't get many correct answers -- unless you questioned a philatelist, another name for a stamp collector.

The educational value of stamp collecting can't be over-emphasized. The hobby should be encouraged by our teachers
