Hollywood eases pain for residents who live on streets that were renamed
HOLLYWOOD – People who live on three recently renamed Hollywood streets can update the address on their driver’s license for free at a special event July 7.
In mid-November, city officials put an end to a long-running controversy when they agreed to rename streets once named for Confederate generals.
Forrest became Freedom, Hood became Hope and Lee became Liberty.
The controversy made headlines in July 2015 when vandals painted over street signs named after Confederate commanders Robert E. Lee, John Bell Hood and Nathan Bedford Forrest, who was also the first grand wizard of the KKK.
The event is open only to those residents who live on those three streets.
Residents can update their licenses from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2400 Charleston St.
Residents will need to bring their driver’s license, the official letter they received from City Hall about the name change, and all documents required by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
To learn more about which documents to bring, visit the city’s website at hollywoodfl.org and click on the “Official Notice” graphic on the home page.
