Arizona dominates again with 4-0 win.

MIAMI — Marlins hitters couldn’t solve the puzzle Zack Greinke threw at them from the mound. Marlins pitchers couldn’t decipher what Greinke was doing at the plate.

Miami’s losing streak stretched to three games as Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks finished their dominance over the Marlins (32-50) this season by handing them a 4-0 loss on Thursday afternoon at Marlins Park. The Marlins went 1-6 against the National League West-leading Diamondbacks this season.

Greinke threw seven innings of shutout ball to silence the Marlins and wreaked havoc at the plate and on the bases. He stroked singles in the second and sixth innings, stole a base, scored a run and drove another in.

“He was a tough guy to handle today,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “I thought our guys were fighting, but it felt like at times, you were fighting with a hand tied behind your back.”

Only two Marlins reached third base against Greinke as the team was shut out for the eighth time this season. It was the first time Miami was held scoreless since May 21 against the Mets, a stretch of 34 games. The Marlins racked up 10 hits Thursday afternoon. All of them were singles.

Brian Anderson’s on-base streak ended at

24 consecutive games as he went 0 for 4. It was the longest this season by a major league rookie and was the longest active one in the NL.

Marlins shortstop JT Riddle tied his career-high with three hits Thursday afternoon. Catcher Bryan Holaday also had a multihit game by going 2 for 4.

Marlins right-hander Trevor Richards, meanwhile, didn’t find the same success as Greinke. Arizona jumped on the 25-year-old rookie early, and three of the first nine Diamondbacks hitters scored runs. Richards only lasted four innings and was tagged with three runs on six hits and two walks.

“When things are going good, I got all three pitches throwing it wherever I want,” Richards said. “Nights that I’ve struggled, one of them’s gone or missing with fastballs. Tonight was a little bit of both.”

Mattingly lifted Richards in the bottom of the fourth inning for pinch-hitter Cameron Maybin with two runners on base. Maybin struck out.
