SUNRISE – No matter how good it tastes, Bundt cake isn’t worth this much.

Sunrise City Manager Richard Salamon had a fit when a local baker refused to honor his coupon for a free cake. Now the $3.99 deal could cost him his $204,000-a-year job.

The top boss at City Hall got nasty when told his coupon for the free mini Bundt had expired, the co-owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes told commissioners Tuesday night.

Dannie Augustin said Salamon came into the Sunrise bakery a few weeks ago and asked her employee to “break the rules” and honor the coupon. When she refused, Salamon’s wife blasted the bakery on Facebook.

Salamon, who could not be reached for comment Thursday, stayed mum on the dais while commissioners debated the matter.

At least one commissioner,

Mark Douglas, is calling for Salamon’s resignation. Another, Larry Sofield, says the coupon kerfuffle might have cost Salamon the respect of his employees.

Commissioners have set a special meeting for July 5 at 5 p.m. to discuss the city manager’s future.

Salamon, who joined the city more than 25 years ago, took over as city manager in January 2015.

“I can’t believe a $4 coupon has got us here today,” Sofield said. “This is a little bit of a black eye on us. This is not what we are about at all.”
