Dania Beach-based Chewy.com has entered the online pet pharmacy market. Beginning Monday, the company is selling veterinarian-prescribed medicines at discount prices.

In a statement, the company said it is providing “convenient access to a wide assortment of prescription products from reputable brands at low prices.”

Available products include overthe-counter medicines, vaccines, veterinary prescription food and health maintenance products from popular suppliers, the company said.

“Chewy Pharmacy takes the hassle out of shopping for pet prescription medications with convenient online ordering and autoship delivery options,” the statement said. “Pet parents can expect to receive the same level of personalized, high touch 24/7 customer service that Chewy is well known for providing to its customers. Chewy Pharmacy will also work collaboratively with veterinarians to coordinate and fulfill pet prescriptions.”

The company, which was founded in 2011 by two millennials who met in an online chat room, rapidly grew into the dominant online pet supplier when retailing giant PetSmart purchased it in spring 2017 for a reported $3.35 billion.

In the fall, it expanded its headquarters at the Design Center of the Americas in Dania Beach, and this past spring it relocated its customer service function to a 100,000-square-foot space at the former Hollywood Mall. It hired 1,000 workers and, in February, said it planned to hire another 400 within six months.
