Fort Lauderdale’s new mayor is an extremist
Hownice to read that our new mayor, who I had hopedwould represent the interests of all city residents, is a liberal extremist. He says he’s going to get in the faces of those he disagrees with— in public places. Really? So if I find service animals in grocery stores or homeless folks onU.S. 1 and17th Street to be really unacceptable, MayorDean Trantalis will support me if I verbally get in those folks’ faces and accost them? That’s his intended approach to things he doesn’t agree with?
I’m a Republican. Sadly, I voted for this mayor, but thereweren’t many options. I don’t accost people I don’t agreewith. Seems pretty childlike.
Never forget where public harassment can lead
Rep. MaxineWaters and her sycophants on the left, includingMayor Dean Trantalis, act as if there is something new about publicly confronting those withwhomone disagrees. In fact, Joseph Goebbels and his Brownshirts took public confrontation to a level thatWaters and Trantalis can only dream of. However, the shards of broken glass littering the streets of Lincoln, Neb., after bricks recently shattered the windows of Republican headquarters there indicate thatWaters’ and Trantalis’ goal of another Kristallnacht may be fast approaching.
So, who elsewould it be OKto harass?
So, Fort LauderdaleMayor Dean Trantalis feels it’s all right to confront and harass Americans who hold a different political perspective than those on the liberal left. Really? Would the mayor, who is openly gay, feel it’s okay to confront and harass gay people in public? Oh, that’s right, they’re “protected.” After 18months, the liberals still can’t get over the fact that they lost the 2016 elections. The liberals’ protests against President Trump’s immigration policy should end on Sunday, after the president nominates a new Supreme Court justice and they have a new issue to protest. Let the liberals remember what was said after the 2008 election, when conservatives objected to the new White House policies. “Iwon. You lost. Deal with it.”— Barack Obama.
Right note hit on Fourth of July
Thank you for the IndependenceDay editorial and opinion page. Itwas the most informative and inspiring page I have read inmy 92 years.
It’s inalienable, not unalienable rights
Your patriotic July 4 editorialwas a timely reminder of our rights as Americans. As brilliant as Thomas Jeffersonwas, he did not have spellcheck to correct his misspelling. Your editorial staff spellcheckers missed it, too. (Editor’s note: We didn’t miss it. We put theword in quote marks, out of respect for one of our Founding Fathers.) When Jeffersonwas referring to our unalienable rights, he meant to write inalienable. So let’s just be happy with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
