MIAMI — A former Marlins executive is asking for your help.

Marty Scott, who spent 40 years in professional baseball and the last five in baseball operations with the Marlins, started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money as he battles health issues. In his post on GoFundMe, Scott said his contract was not renewed by new Marlins ownership (headed by principal owner Bruce Sherman and CEO Derek Jeter) just days after he had a cancerous tumor removed.

Now, Scott said he’s receiving dialysis three times a week to help fight his Type 2 diabetes, and is also waiting to receive a kidney transplant.

As of Monday at 5 p.m., more than $27,000 had been raised towards the $30,000 goal.

Scott completed his second season as a Marlins vice president and special assistant last year, and he initially joined the organization in September 2011 as Vice President of Player Development. He also spent 10 seasons in the Texas Rangers organization in addition to stints with the New York Mets and in independent ball.

Here is the

Scott’s post:

“I've been in professional baseball for 40 years. I have type 2 diabetes which has caused kidney failure. I was to have a kidney transplant last fall but in pre transplant tests, they found a cancerous tumor. Tumor was removed but transplant put on hold to make sure cancer does not return. Also, do not have a donor at this time. Two days after surgery, I was informed by new ownership of the Miami Marlins that my contract would not be renewed. I am currently receiving dialysis three days a week and struggle with blood pressure with my medical issues. I have exhausted all of my savings and maxed out credit cards and will soon be homeless without any income.” full text from
