A pregnant woman was killed, and two children — a 10-month-old boy and a 13-year-old girl — were wounded in a shooting Monday in Pine Hills, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., a white Chevrolet Malibu was chasing a silver car, and someone began shooting, Demings said.

Deputies were down the street responding to an unrelated call when they heard at least 15 shots, Demings said. The silver car came to rest at Gamble Drive and Dunsford Drive with a shot-out back window and multiple bullet holes.

The 13-year-old girl, shot in the arm, ran to deputies for help, Demings said.

The 21-year-old woman driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The baby boy suffered a graze wound, Demings said.

The kids were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

La’Shonta Iseley lives down the street. She said she was at work at the time, but her son was on his way to the bus stop when he heard shots.

“He heard people screaming, ‘Help, help!’ ” she said, adding her son did not see the people.

Deputies are seeking two suspects who were in the white Malibu. They were described as young adults.

Demings called the incident “very violent” and said the fact that children were involved makes it more tragic.

“As a father and as a grandfather, whenever you see incidents like this occur, it’s emotional for the entire community,” Demings said.

Iseley said her street is usually quiet: “In two years, I haven’t seen anything like this.”

Bishop Kelvin Cobaris of The Impact Church in Pine Hills said shootings such as this could be prevented if people had more respect for one another.

“There’s no way to legislate love,” he said. “No matter how many laws you put in place, it comes back to the heart of people. In this era, people are cold, callous and evil, and they will do anything to get their point across.

“We as a society have to work hard to change the hearts of men and get people’s heart in the right direction and have a concern and care for one another.”
