YOU'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER
Do you dare watch Jaws — while in the water?
Just when you thought itwas safe to go back in the water, “Jaws” is lurking off the coast of South Florida.
The1975 Steven Spielberg classic about a misunderstood great white shark mercilessly hunted by the denizens of a small New England town— OK, we kid— will be screened on the water Friday at Whiskey Creek Hideout at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania Beach.
Think of it as a float-in theater: “Jaws” will be projected onto a 15-by-20-foot inflatable screen, perched on the beach opposite the Whiskey Creek Hideout concession area. Moviegoers can watch froman inner tube or fromthe beach.
The 8:30 p.m. screening is designed for 18-and-older “Jaws” watchers, says Dane White, director of operations for BG Florida State Parks, which handles concessions for MizellJohnson, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale and Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach.
Admission is $15, which includes a float (or moviegoers can bring their own), a glow-stick necklace and access to a bounce-house water slide. Whiskey Creek Hideout will offer food, $15 beer buckets, $6 cocktails and $10 Shark Bites, a Rum Runner splashed with blue curacao and maraschino-cherry juice. Outside coolers aren’t allowed.
“Jaws” will then migrate south to Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach for two all-ages beachfront screenings at 8:30 p.m. July 28-29. Admission is $15 ($10 for children10 and younger), which includes a float and glow-stick necklace. The venue will likewise offer food, drink specials and $10 Shark Bites, and same rules apply about outside coolers.
