Under new ownership, the iconic Shore Club South Beach resort has replaced its Italian restaurant, Terrazza, with this modernMexican oasis.
“Mexican food has long been known mainly for the tacos and Tex-Mex trend fromway back,” says chef Jose Icardi, an Argentinean native who also helms Leynia at Delano South Beach resort. “But Mexican food has more to offer. That’s whywe need to elevate and create new ways to explore theMexican culture.”
His favorites are Cuban tacoswith mojo pork and chicharrones in housemade black-bean tortillas ($14) and whole branzino a la talla with smoked pineapple salsa ($28). Other highlights include cactus salad with chimichurri dressing ($11), Enchiladas Suizas with duck confit and pickled apple ($17) and lobster aguachile ($18).
Red velvet churros are stuffed with cream cheese and studded with candied pecans ($12).
Mezcal tastings from tableside carts complement cocktails ($15), such as the El Chapulin Colorado with tequila, mezcal, watermelon and habanero.
Aromatic smokewafts fromawoodburning grill stationed in a beachy-chic courtyard lounge over to an attractive terrace that overlooks two tropical pools. Colorful columns painted by a muralist contrast the whitewashed décorwith floor lanterns.
