Camp notes and injuries
Friday at Miami Dolphins training camp, this is how it looked:
Stock up
Albert Wilson has primarily worked with Miami’s secondteam while the newcomer learns the Dolphins’ offense, and during Friday’s practice he showcased why Miami gave the fifth-year veteran a three-year, $24 million contract this offseason. Wilson made at least three catches that would have produced major gains, including a 30-yard reception from David Fales that featured Wilson turning on the afterburners to get behind Miami’s safeties in the seam.
Stock down
Rookie kicker Greg Joseph, who finished his career as Florida Atlantic’s leading scorer, missed three of the six field goals he attempted on Friday, which was his day to handle all the kicking duties during his camp battle with fellow rookie Jason Sanders. Joseph missed a 34-yarder, a 44-yarder and a 52-yard field goal. Sanders, who the Dolphins selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft, was 6-for-6 during his kicking day on Thursday.
Camp observations
Brock Osweiler redeemed himself from his two-interception performance on Thursday by connecting on a pair of deep passes to receivers Francis Owusu and Isaiah Ford.
■ CB Torry McTyer pulled down an interception, stepping in front of a pass intended for WR Jakeem Grant.
■ DT Davon Godchaux, who continues to work with the second-team defensive line, had an active day at the line of scrimmage. On one particular play, he stopped RB Frank Gore for a loss in the backfield.
■ QB Ryan Tannehill scrambled out of the pocket for small gains a handful of times during 11-on-11s, showing that he still possesses the speed to gain first downs with his legs.
■ QB Bryce Petty had a pass tipped at the line of scrimmage and rookie LB Quinton Poling pulled it down for an interception. That’s his first interception of camp.
■ OG Ted Larsen got a couple reps with the first team at left guard.
■ Special teams coach Darren
Rizzi missed Friday’s practice to attend Tony Sparano’s funeral. Sparano, the Dolphins former coach, was the first NFL coach to hire Rizzi in 2009 and he’s been on Miami’s coaching staff since.
Injury news
WR Isaiah Ford suffered an undisclosed injury during 11-on-11 drills during a 40-yard reception from Osweiler. Ford jogged to the training room but never returned to practice.
■ Jake Brendel, Miami’s top backup at center, sat out Friday’s practice because of a right calf injury. Mike Matthews and Connor Hilland handled the workload as Daniel Kilgore’s backup.
